Sysco Foods
COLLEGE PARK, GA

Sysco, a 24/7 operation with limited site space, needed a firm to design and manage the logistics of expanding their facility while maintaining the 24/7 operation.  The existing facility was a pre-cast system built in the mid-1960’s which had had numerous renovations. Sysco selected Primus Builders to design and build their 52,000 SF Freezer/ Cooler expansion and renovate key areas of the facility.

Scope of work included the following: Rail spur removal, electrical room re-distribution, maintenance/ support space in reconfigured in old engine room, new receiving dock offices, five new underpinned dock positions (providing 1,500 SF additional dock space), employee welfare areas (including locker room and rest rooms), new 17,000 SF variable temperature cooler expansion over rail pit, new 60’ dock aprons extension, complete truck site paving overlay restoration, and a new refrigeration system for the entire facility.

Refrigeration system included a new engine room, a structural steel structure with relocated cooling towers above it, rebuilt compressors fitted with variable speed drives and current Quantum LX controllers, new and reused air units fitted with variable speed drives, and a new freezer penthouse. The complete ammonia refrigeration overhaul replaced an antiquated system with a modern energy efficient state-of-the-art system.

Premium quality features included: a shrink compensating slabs, T8 fluorescent lighting systems, and variable speed drive technology for the refrigeration equipment.
