Primus Builders was recently selected by Wayne Farms, LLC to design and construct their new Northern Alabama Cold Storage Facility. Strategically located in Decatur, Alabama, Wayne Farms will be able to greatly simplify their logistical efforts and associated costs when the 135,000 SF freezer, which includes over 15,000 pallet positions, is completed. This facility comes on line in the third quarter of 2008.
The new Cold Storage Facility is being constructed between the East and West Wayne Farms Processing facilities which allow direct transfer of production from the processing facilities to the Cold Storage Facility. Product from both of the processing plants will be automatically transferred via a pallet shuttle system and pallet lifts which then automatically transfer pallet loads between the two buildings, while overcoming a 17-foot elevation change between the east plant and the new cold storage building.
Additional features of the new Cold Storage Facility include the use of shrink compensating Concrete Slabs, which minimizes control joints and maintenance. Wayne Farms has also agreed to install high output T5 Fluorescent Light Fixtures which use approximately 40% of the energy while delivering better “readability” for the operator, thus delivering a more efficient order selection operation.
